Sample City, 2003, video 12’ (special screening at the Cinema 7B)
Sample City explores the multi-layered reality of the Bucharest cityscape, using the contemporary impersonation of a character from an old Romanian folk tale as a guide. A sort of Balkan Tijl Uilenspiegel, he carries a door on his back, thus representing a sort of migrant architecture wandering endlessly through the city. The original sound track is a club mix of various subcultures, from Gypsy lautar (peasant migrating into café concert) orchestra, to manele (urban folklore with Oriental influences), to local hip-hop and drum ’n’ bass.
